Spending the summer holidays on the beach with family is one of life's great pleasures. At Mark Warner, we have decades of experience in making sure all the family has the chance to enjoy an exciting range of fun activities and watersports as well as simply hang out together in a relaxed setting. We have put together 7 tips for the best family beach holidays in Europe so you can create warm family memories that will last a lifetime.
7 Tips For A Successful Family Beach Holiday
The summer holidays are a time to reconnect with the kids away from daily pressures and routines. Here are our tips for making your family beach holiday one you'll want to remember always.
1. Choose a resort with a family friendly beach or family pool
Choose a resort where you can have plenty of quality time together, perhaps in a family pool or on a family-friendly beach. Letting the little ones paddle in a pool or splash in the sea on a sheltered beach are surefire ways of putting a smile on their face.
2. Make time for you!
Make life easy for yourself by finding a resort with great childcare and kids clubs, where the kids can make friends and challenge themselves with exciting sports such as sailing and windsurfing. Whether you are a single parent or a family with several children or just one child, having access childcare or kids clubs to keep your children entertained can be invaluable. Make sure you reserve childcare at the time of booking your holiday to avoid disappointment in busier months.
3. Remember sun protection
Probably the most important tip on our list, remember to pack and wear your sun protection, especially for the little ones in the family. Invest in child-friendly sunscreen with sufficient SPF, UV swimwear and a small fold-up UV tent that will protect your baby or young child should they need to nap without needing to go back to your room.
4. Check if the beach resort provides baby and toddler equipment
Find a beach resort that provides all the baby and toddler equipment you need, including travel cots, high chairs, sterilising equipment, potties and purées. A number of the resorts at Mark Warner provide a parents kitchen or bottle sterilising facilities, along with essential equipment for babies and toddlers.
5. Save packing space
Don’t overpack – find out what’s available in your resort (some have small shops of their own, including the Mark Warner Beach Resorts) or nearby. You can save plenty of packing space on bulky items such as nappies that are easy to come by at your destination. And don’t stress too much about remembering lots of sunscreen and the likes of sunglasses, beach toys and water wings – most family-friendly resorts will sell such items, or have some on hand to loan guests. You can find more information on what to pack on our summer childcare section.
6. Keep the travel short-haul
Choose a short haul holiday destination, especially with younger kids. There’s no point in exhausting your kids (and yourself) with long-haul travel when you have Greece and Turkey virtually on your doorstep.
Similarly, when choosing a resort, consider the transfer times to resort – it can be hard for a child to deal with a long bus journey after getting off the plane.
7. Beach resorts with family rooms
Resorts designed with families in mind have more spacious accommodation and family-friendly facilities. At Mark Warner, our resorts offer a selection of room types to suit families of all sizes - our spacious family rooms or interconnecting rooms will provide you with enough space for everyone, while still keeping your loved ones close by.
